Since most of everyone here is in school....and most take some form of literature study.... this is the place to rant when you feel like procrastinating over a piece of essay.
The most boring 'classic' I had to read was Conrad's "Heart of Darkness". I don't care that it was the book that marked the beginning of the post-colonial genre, and the darkness of African jungle symbolised the beastiality and inner evil of man, IT WAS ONE SCREWED UP BOOK.
The freaking narrator was narrating his tale of listening to another man talk about his hearing another guy speak of his experiences in the deep dark heart of Africa during the colonial division of the continent.
It was confusing. It was tedious. It was short and long at the same time. And it was depressing, both in theme and in effect.

To Kill A Mockingbird. I don't know if it quite counts as a classic, but it is highly dull to me.

The first time I tried to read Ivanhoe, it was so boring and not understandable to me that I routinely fell asleep during our reading period. (this was in 4th grade. I blame my parents, what kind of psychos think their 8 year old can read that book?!).
Anyway, I have begun re-reading it more recently, and even though I don't like it much more so far, it's not as bad as I remembered.
Conversely, when I was in 4th grade I loved the book "The Hatchet". It is what inspired me to create my mega-survival plan just in case I ever got lost in a woods. But recently, I also decided to re-read it, because I found it while re-organizing my bookshelves. It is SO repetitive I can't even stand it.

Don't get me wrong, I still loved those books (Hatchet & sequels). It just wasn't the amazing writing I remembered it was.
Another classic I didn't like very much: Jane Eyre. We had to read it in AP Literature. The writing was very nice, and I realize this is simply a matter of personal taste in books, but I never actually finished reading it because I found it so….boring. The plot of the book is basically: ugly-ish lady is governess, has a crush on a person, random stuff happens, they get married, he still has a different wife somehow, more random stuff happens, and then there's a happy ending even though the guy is now blind. Which is somehow symbolic and significant. Its plot fails. Most definitely the most boring book we read in AP Literature. On the other hand, I loved “To Kill A Mockingbird”, which lots of other people find boring.

i love Night! it really gave me a first hand account of WWII, and it was so disturbing. i can't believe elie wiesel was able to survive that! THE NAZIS SHOT BABIES. THE NAZIS REMOVED TEETH WITH RUSTY SPOONS. THEY WERE CRUEL. it's because of Night that i never made a holocaust joke this year.
