What to tell you all.....well, 1. I am the biggest island in the world that is also a continent unto itself. FEAR ME. 2. I am Aus-tra-li-a, not Aus-tri-a. MY hills DON'T sing. 3. I am surrounded by the Pacific Ocean on my right, and the Indian Ocean on my left. A small dragon-shaped island called Papua-New Guinea exists above me, and my beloved Kiwi rival is situated to my right. Antarctica (that continent from Matthew Reilly's 'Ice Station') is below me 4. I'm quite fond of brother America, ever since the gradual decline in family bonds with Mother England. Sadly, I am rather unacknowledged by both. 5. China loves me a lot. Well, what's beneath my lands anyway. Uranium, iron ore... 6. I'm not just 'sunny-desert-Outback' with Kangaroos and Koalas... Ithere is a city-side of me too. 7. I have other Outback fauna, as well as other marine creatures. They may pop up every now and then. My personal favourite? The emu. They can't walk/run backwards, only forwards. ONWARDS, AUSTRALIA! 8. My seafood is awesome. France and Italy would kill to be able to use my diverse range of crustaceans and fish in their cuisines. 9. Uluru is where my heart is. Literally, and figuratively. ((Cookies to those who get it!!)) 10. You have no idea how depressing it is to not have snow during Christmas.

(Indy's right Uluru is in the middle of Australia. The indigenous people also consider it and the area around it their sacred land, so it's figuratively where Australia's heart would be !!) Cookies for Indy~

You should come~! During summer/autumn, mind you. Winter is not as much fun. Especially for beaches. Come for adventure, and couture fashions a year late from Europe, and a multilingual community where people live in (relative) peace. ...*sweatdrop*...

Depressing not to have snow at Christmas? Being a Wisconsinite, I will have to package and ship some to you. They seem to have given us extra.
Also...I heard your elections were comming up. The person, an Australian, who I talked to about it seemed to think the situation was grim (that two main parties were having problems and neither was very good). What do you think?

It is depressing to not have snow in Christmas. While you can still make sandmen, it's a bit too dangerous to have a sand-fight. orz. Yes, some snow would be lovely. *imagines a snowy Uluru* =u=
Yes, federal elections is going to be held this month on the 21st. What I think about it? To be honest, the two main parties - Liberal and the current govt Labor - seem to have similar objectives, just different ways to achieve them.
Labor popularity is hindered by recent party reorganisation and general discontent of inefficient policies from previous PM Rudd (I personally liked him..*sigh*), while Liberals have been foiling their own success because of inarticulate arguments, particularly by their leader. i.e.: they kept arguing with the government, and blocking Bills/legislation within the Senate.
So all in all, yes, it's a bit grim, since neither party seems to be particularly appealing. The media keeps blowing things out of proportion too, which is annoying, because it makes it hellish to try and identify the issues of the parties.
From what I can tell, some younger voters with no real interest in politics/don't like the policies of either party want to vote for the Greens. Because a) just so their vote doesn't go to Liberal/Labor or b) the Greens actually have some good policies. :/
For me, I'll probably decide on the day based on the info on the pamphlets they hand out on the day.

It seems like you have the same problems we do. Good luck with those...they're hell.
The Green party? We've got one of those too but it doesn't seem to be getting anywhere so far... I wonder how the rise of the thrid party will change, or not change, things. Or if such a third-party will even emerge at all (for both our countries).
Here I think if a more left-wing third party (such as the Green party) were to gain momentum, it would be mirrored and checked on the other side by some form of right-wing third party, such as the Libertarians. I don't know if this is good, or bad.
Really, all I can hope for is that each is sincere in their policies and goals.
Good luck with your new leaders! ;D
