This won't affect most people here, but Selling Northern Ireland off?
Firstly, Ms Dejevsky, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING? You can't just insist that a bloody state/country/whatever the hell NI is should be SOLD off. That is wrong on SO many different levels.
Selling Northern Ireland off is bad enough. Selling it to the Republic of Ireland? That's like insisting North Korea and South Korea should reunite. Have you forgotten the Troubles, ma'am? Have you forgotten that Ulster fought so determinedly so that they could be part of the UK, and not part of Ireland? Have you forgotten the countless lives that were lost and the emnity that the Irish and the Ulstermen still have for each other? Did you know that youths as young as 13 and 14 are spreading sectarianism through sites such as Facebook?
Secondly, selling people off is illegal in the UK and has been for a good century or more. Selling 1775000 people? Somehow, I don't think the UN will look too favourably upon that.
Sure, NI has a lot of debts from the Troubles. But you know what? So do Republic of Ireland! So does the rest of Britain! It's been done and attempting to sell of a state/country/whatever is not the way of going about trying to get rid of debts.
Do Republic of Ireland want Northern Ireland? I sincerely doubt it. Their nationalists might want NI, sure, but they (or most) hate the Ulstermen with a passion and it'll especially be reignited with the adults who fought or were affected by the Troubles. The adults who are in their late twenties and thirties and more and who could influence their kids to think that way. Do you want The Troubles Mark II on your hands?
If the UK wants to raise money, ma'am, why doesn't it sell islands or colonies that other countries want? (Not that NI isn't wanted). Why not sell the Channel Islands to France, since Guernsey, for example, is almost French. Why not sell Gibraltar, as Spain did try to take it back diplomatically a few years ago? Why not sell the Falklands as it's useless and Argentina would be grateful? Heck, why not demand Scotland to pay the British Government if they want their independence so badly?
Oh, no wait. The Channel Islanders don't want to be sold off as their proudly British. The Gibraltar-ians (?) voted to stay British. Same with the Falklands, who we went to war with a military power sited right next to a bunch of useless islands with penguins. Scotland has the Northern Oil deposits, we can't lose those. What makes you think the Northern Irish want to be sold?
We lose much less selling off the first three than selling Northern Ireland. Yes, you may be an Irish/Ulster woman yourself, but seriously? Think about it.
I'm in a bad mood and stuff. So I ranted. And I know that most people here aren't British and would probably read this and think what the hell I'm going on about and why it bothers me so and what does it matter. It just bugs me and it matters to me. So, there.
Why do I feel there will be no posts on here
